USS ARLINGTON (LPD 24)

The USS ARLINGTON (LPD 24) is one of three ships named in recognition of the tragic events of 9/11. Named for the county where the Pentagon is located, the USS ARLINGTON (LPD 24) honors the memory of those whose lives were lost at the Pentagon, and the heroism of the first responders who risked their lives so others might live.

The USS ARLINGTON (LPD 24) is the only ship of the three that will have a Tribute Room on-board to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11.  Enhancements such as the Tribute Room cannot be funded by the Navy, and instead rely on support received from the community.  Therefore, the Arlington Community Foundation and the Navy League of Hampton Roads have formed a Commissioning Committee to provide funding support for the Tribute Room, as well as the ship’s commissioning event next April.
